How to Know Jesus

Do you notice that something is wrong with the world?

It is easy to observe culture and miss the fact that you instinctively know that something is wrong with this world. Things are not as they were intended to be. We are hardwired by our creator by account of our being made in His image.  The scripture speaks of this by saying, "We know that the whole creation has been groaning, as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time." (Romans 8:22; NIV) Our world and everything we see is crying out a fundamental message: something is wrong. That something is sin!

Do you know that something is wrong with you?

Have you ever tried to get away from sin? Popular movies speak of man's ability to create a utopian society for himself. The problem is that even if we lock ourselves in a closet, then there is still one sinner in the closet. Scripture is exteremely clear regarding the nature of mankind. Scripture says, "There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23; NIV) Each of us have sinned against the holy Creator of the universe and separated ourselves from His presence and the availability of communion with Him.

What is the answer?

The answer to our fundamental problem of sin is God. God has provided the diagnosis, the cure, and the insurance of the cure's application. Salvation is about realizing that we are not all powerful in and of ourselves. Salvation is the turning from ourselves to God's provision for sin in the historical person of Jesus Christ. Jesus' actions combined on the cross and the presence of the empty tomb constitute the single most important event in the history of the universe. The uniqueness of God's way of salvation in His Son Jesus Christ is seen in verses such as John 14:6. So, what should you do to begin your relationship with God through Jesus Christ? The answer is as simple as A-B-C, but as profound as anything in all of existence.

ADMIT

We must admit that we are sinners in desperate need of a savior. Our future is bleak and non-existent without Jesus Christ. As God has said about our position, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23; NIV) Jesus himself said, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit." (John 3:5; NIV)

BELIEVE

Through belief in Christ, we are declared by God to be righteous in His sight because of the work of Jesus on the cross. As Jesus said to Nicodemus, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son." (John 3:16-18; NIV)

CONFESS

The Bible is clear that salvation comes through confessing our faith in Jesus Christ. The book of Romans says, "That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you shall be saved." (Romans 10:9; NIV) As the old hymn has said, "Faith is the victory." Jesus has already achieved the victory, our faith allows us to share in His victory over sin and death.

What now?

If you are agreeing with God concerning your sinfulness and your need of salvation in Jesus Christ, then you need to pray a prayer illustrating the truths from above back to God.
